WE HAVE A NAME!

GENERATION CHALLENGE PROGRAMME: Cultivating Plant Diversity for the Resource-Poor

After much deliberation and consultation, we finally have a name for our Challenge Programme! For a full explanation of the rationale for this name and tag line, please click here: http://www.generationcp.org/na. You can access the Generation Challenge Programme webpage at www.generationcp.org, but www.genesforcrops.org will continue to point to the same page.

Congratulations to Marcelo Ortiz, Graphic Designer at CIMMYT, who designed the winning logo!

QUESTIONNAIRE: ANNUAL RESEARCH MEETING 22-24 SEPTEMBER in BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA
As you know, the Challenge Programme will be holding its first Annual Research Meeting in Brisbane, Australia, from 22-24 September, just before the International Crop Science Congress convenes in Brisbane. We would like to have significant participation in the Annual Research Meeting by scientists active in CP research. The structure of the meeting will be plenary sessions with presentations of research progress and working groups for each Subprogramme. For planning purposes, we need to get an idea of who is planning on attending the ARM and who needs travel/accommodation support, so please fill out the attached survey (also found here: http://www.generationcp.org/na) and return it to Griselda Marquez (g.marquez@cgiar.org) with copy to Jenny Nelson (j.nelson@cgiar.org) by Thursday, 1 April 2004.

NEEDS ASSESSMENT for CAPACITY-BUILDING FOR NARS?Request for participant nominations!
As part of the capacity-building effort of the Challenge Programme, we will host a Needs Assessment Workshop for National Agricultural Research Systems on 2-6 August 2004 in Costa Rica. Invitees, who will be NARS representatives at the research director level or similar capacity, will discuss their capacity-building needs and optimal Challenge Programme activities for meeting those needs. This is a very important activity, as this workshop will lay the foundation for a strong global network of NARS partners for the Generation Challenge Programme. For a full description of this workshop, please click here: http://www.generationcp.org/na.

We would greatly appreciate your nominations of NARS representatives who would be interested in participating in this workshop. Please send your nominations to Carmen de Vicente (c.devicente@cgiar.org) and Jenny Nelson (j.nelson@cgiar.org) by Friday, 26 March.
