Molecular Breeding Training Program ? Call for Applications
To be held in Nairobi, Kenya, 28 Nov-18 Dec 2004, this course will provide training tailored to the needs of the participants so they may incorporate what they learn into their research or breeding programs. Participants will be selected on the basis of prior experience, current projects, and pledges from host institutions to continue molecular breeding research and application activities in the future. SP4 Bioinformatics ?Hack-a-thon? 5-23 July at IRRI ? REPORT AVAILABLE
The workshop?s objective was to construct a first year full reference implementation of the GCP information platform and network reflecting design inputs discussed at the CIMMYT-hosted workshop of 31 May-4 June 2004. SP1/2 Phenotyping Protocols Workshop 5-9 July at Agropolis
This workshop brought together experts in phenotyping for drought to discuss how the GCP should assure uniformly high quality data collection: what minimum data sets are required for every GCP experiment, how these measurements should be taken, and with what equipment. The final version will be posted to the virtual workspace following ratification at the Brisbane Annual Research Meeting 22-24 Sept.

SP5 NARS Needs Assessment for Capacity Building 2-6 August in Costa Rica
At this intensive week-long meeting with senior NARS research managers from LAC, Africa, Asia, and CWANA, a comprehensive global, regional, and national capacity building needs matrix was developed, with suggestions for implementation. New GCP Communications Assistant
Ibti Vincent joined the GCP on August 9. From the Washington D.C. area by way of Kuwait, Ibti has worked as an Americorps volunteer, a high school teacher, and a technical editor at the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia. She will be managing the new GCP website (to be unveiled in September), assisting on the virtual workspace, and helping plan GCP events, among other activities.
