3) Workshop on candidate gene discovery (an SP2-SP4 workshop)
ARM participants are invited to this workshop on 14–15 September 2008, preceding the ARM. The SP2-SP4 organised workshop, convened by GCP’s Subprogramme 4, will cover microarray analysis, QTL meta analysis, integration of microarray and QTL data and EST analysis. More

Opportunities
Capacity-building is a major cornerstone of GCP’s work. GCP warmly congratulates this year’s winners of GCP capacity-building awards, in three categories:
1) Awardees of 2008 Capacity-building à la carte
Now in its second year, this tailor-made and team-focused support programme is for national agricultural research programmes in the developing world. More

2) Winners of 2008 GCP Fellowships
Five fellowships have been awarded in 2008. GCP’s competitive fellowships are offered to scientists wishing to conduct research outside of their home countries/institutions for a limited period. The Programme emphasises research in GCP's four thematic Subprogrammes. More

3) Winners of 2008 GCP Travel Grants
Each year, GCP provides travel grants to developing country scientists to advance their research, and to foster and strengthen links within and across GCP projects.  More

Changes in GCP governance: The Executive Board
The GCP Programme Steering Committee (PSC) has been spearheading governance reform, resulting in the formation of an Executive Board as GCP’s apex governing body effective June 2008. More, including profiles of Executive Board Members

1) Update on 3rd round competitive grants
Following GCP’s 3rd call for competitive research projects in January this year, 24 concept notes have qualified for the next stage, which is developing full proposals. More

2) Publications
With the good assistance of our Principal Investigators (PIs), we have embarked on compiling a list of GCP publications through the years. This list thus far is available online, but please note that this is still very much a work in progress, and reflects joint efforts with GCP PIs to date.

• Molecular breeding capacity-building workshop, 1–7 June 2008. More
• Whole-plant physiology modeling project—wrap-up meeting, 4–7 February 2008: Following the end-of-project meeting for the SP1 whole-plant physiology modeling project (see announcement), please now find material from this meeting, with our thanks to Delphine Luquet for providing this material.
• Facing the challenge of drought phenotyping: 28–30 January 2008: This workshop, convened at GCP Headquarters, brought together specialists from a range of disciplines. Participants examined several options for tackling the complexity of drought phenotyping in GCP projects. From these options, a workplan was developed, to be further refined and implemented over the months to follow. More

1) Call for African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) fellowships
Coordinated by the CGIAR Gender & Diversity Programe, this fellowship offers a two-year career development programme for women agricultural scientists from qualifying countries at post-Bachelors, post-Masters and post-PhD level.
