The Pioneer–GCP Fellowship in plant breeding and genetics: applications invited

 

The Pioneer–GCP PhD Fellowship targets top performers who will advance plant science, with emphasis on international agriculture.

 

·         Application deadline: 30 November 2008

 

·         Eligibility: Demonstrated interest in improving agriculture in developing countries. Priority to candidates from developing countries that lack a strong agronomic education base. More

 

 

CIRAD–GCP vacancy: Crop genetic diversity specialist

 

This job will be at the core of the activities of GCP’s Subprogramme 1 (Crop genetic diversity). In addition to English, candidates must have a working knowledge of French.

 

Application deadline: 19 November 2008. More

 

 

Update on the 2008 GCP Annual Research Meeting

 

Presentations and rapporteur reports from the 2008 Annual Research Meeting (ARM) are now available online.

 

 

New title for GCP’s Subprogramme 1

 

The title for Subprogramme 1 has been reworded to ‘Crop genetic diversity’, replacing ‘Genetic diversity of global genetic resources’.

 

 

Reminders on upcoming GCP events

 

1.       Workshop on reference sets of food crop germplasm for international collaboration

 

·         Dates: November 13–17, 2008

 

·         Convenors: GCP’s Subprogrammes 1 and 5

 

·         Venue: Montpellier, France

 

This workshop will examine the various stages in accessing the genetic diversity of crop germplasm collections. More

 

 

2.       Tropical legumes genomics workshop

 

·         Date: 7 December 2008 (as part of the IV International Conference on Legume Genomics and Genetics, 7–12 December 2008)

 

·         Convenor: GCP’s Subprogramme 2

 

·         Venue: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

 

The workshop will focus on advances in genomics for groundnuts, cowpeas, beans and chickpeas. More
