Winners of the GCP–Pioneer Fellowship
Honoré Kam is the winner of the Pioneer–GCP Fellowship Programme November 2008 call. Later this month, there will be another fellowship call. More

2nd Genotyping Support Service (GSS) workshop
This workshop, kindly hosted by CIAT, was held from 26–30 January. More

1.       New Subprogramme 3 Leader
Xavier Delannay has been appointed as the new SP3 Leader, effective early March 2009. More

2.       GCP workshop on reference sets, 13–17 November 2008
Outcomes of this workshop, including a feature story, are now online.

3.       GCP Learning materials
A reminder that we have a set of downloadable online materials, that are also available on CD-ROM. Topics covered thus far are international policies, bioinformatics and genomics. More

4.       GCP publications in 2008, including academic theses
Our publications list for 2008 has now been updated, and includes a brand-new section on academic dissertations and theses. Access the full publications list here.

5.       Crop data for better targeting
The HarvestChoice website offers a collection of downloadable crop production and marketing datasets for Sub-Saharan Africa, to inform policy and investment decisions, and thus improve targeting. More

6.       Training course on molecular marker technology for crop improvement

  • Dates and venue: 18–29 May 2009, ICRISAT, Patancheru, India
  • Application deadline: 31 March 2009
  • Target audience: mainly Indian scientists but also developing country scientists with a demonstrable ability to use the techniques taught and the CEG marker services. More 

7.       The West Africa Crop Improvement Centre (WACCI) PhD Programme

  • Target: full-time, professional plant breeders who will go on to build careers in breeding new cultivars of food crops
  • Target zone: West Africa, with initial emphasis on Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Niger and Nigeria More 

8.       The Rothamsted International African Fellows Programme

  • Target: Scientists and researchers working on agriculture in Africa
  • Pre-proposals deadline: 19 June 2009 More
