1. New faces at GCP Headquarters

  • Larry Butler appointed as Product Delivery Leader
    Dr Larry Butler has been appointed as GCP’s Product Delivery Leader effective 7th September 2009. In this new position, Larry will work closely with the Product Delivery Coordinators leading the seven GCP Challenge Initiatives. More 
  • Socio-economics intern Kayoko Lyons teams up with SP 5
    For four weeks between August and September 2009, GCP Headquarters hosted Kayoko Lyons on an internship. Kayoko’s brief is to summarise and a create a website on SP5’s socio-economic work. She continues to work on the project from her new base in Ecuador. More

SP5 launches fourth set of Learning materials: Marker-assisted breeding module
GCP’s Subprogramme 5 has fresh pickings on offer this month, with a new arrival in the online Learning Materials series, this time on marker-assisted breeding (MAB). A Beta version of the MAB module is publicly accessible via the GCP’s Capacity-building Corner. More

1. Gates Foundation funds project to extend reach of agricultural journals in Africa
A digital library programme run by Cornell University's Mann Library has received a major boost thanks to a $1.8 million grant from The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a move which promises to extend the reach of agricultural journals in Africa, where limited internet facilities often hinder access to such key research materials. More

    • Helps developing countries strengthen sustainable agricultural practices by providing short‐term scientific training and collaborative research opportunities to visiting researchers, policymakers and university faculty while they work with a mentor

    • Fellowships for research on conservation and use of Plant Genetic Resources.
