
GCP Welcomes 4 New Consortium Members
At its 2005 annual meeting in Morocco, the Program Steering Committee of the GCP granted membership* to four newcomer institutions: Centro de Investigaci?n y de Estudios Avanzados (Cinvestav)-Campus Guanajuato of Mexico, Instituto Agronomico per l?Oltremare (IAO) of Italy, Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA) of Morocco, and the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) of Thailand. Call for Competitive Grant Proposals to Open 15 FEBRUARY 2006
The next round of competitive grants will open on 15 February 2006. Pre-proposals will be due 30 April. The new call for competitive grants is an ?oriented? call that will serve to consolidate the GCP research agenda, and will therefore target few scientific themes. The call will be announced on the GCP website and circulated to e-news subscribers on 15 February.
2006 Commissioned Research
The 2006 commissioned research portfolio can be viewed on the new Research Page of the GCP website: www.generationcp.org/research.php. The final proposals for the commissioned research projects will be available there shortly.
Mark Your Calendars! GCP 2006 Annual Research Meeting: 12-16 SEPTEMBER 2006
The dates for the 2006 Annual Research Meeting are fixed: 12-16 September 2006. By popular demand, this year?s ARM will last five days, with three days dedicated to cross-program scientific seminars and discussion, and two days for Subprogram-specific reporting and planning. The venue will be announced shortly.

New Sections on the GCP Website: Capacity Building Corner and Intellectual Property Helpdesk
We?re pleased to launch two new sections on our website: the Capacity Building Corner (http://www.generationcp.org/capcorner.php), with special information about capacity building opportunities and monthly features of our fellowship and travel grant winners, and the IP Helpdesk (http://www.generationcp.org/iphelpdesk.php), with all the information you need to know about intellectual property relating to the science and substance of the Generation Challenge Program. This month the Capacity Building Corner features an interview with Daniel Fonceka, from Senegal, who conducted his GCP fellowship at CIRAD in France. Announcements on the GCP Website
The GCP website has a "Latest News" feature where we can post announcements about events, publications, etc., of interest to GCP members and the global genetic resources and genomics community. We also have an ?Announcements? section in the Capacity Building Corner for news and opportunities related to training and human resource development. The website gets over 2,000 hits per month, so here's a way to get some publicity for your news!
