New face at GCP

1st GCP External Programme and Management Review
Starting late October this year, GCP is undergoing its first ever External Programme and Management Review (EPMR) commissioned by the Science Council of the CGIAR. The three-member review panel was at GCP Headquarters in Mexico for a week in October–November 2007. The panel is headed by Wallace Beversdorf. Other members are Jennifer Thompson and Markus Palenburg. The EPMR report is expected end of February 2008.

Please note revised dates for our Annual Research Meeting (ARM), now scheduled for 16th to 20th September 2008 in Asia. Mark your calendars!

Calling all young scientists in plant genomics…The Plant Genomics Network
This brand-new initiative invites young scientists working in plant genomics to a knowledge- and information-sharing network. The Plant Genomics Network is the brainchild of Rudi Trijatmiko, awardee of a GCP fellowship in 2006. More details on how to join the e-group at:

Training Course: Molecular Marker Applications in Crop Genetics and Breeding
Dates: 31 March–11 April 2008

Training the next generation of rice breeders

FAO expands its coverage of biotechnology in Russian and Arabic
FAO recently launched the Russian version of its Biotechnology website, as well as FAO-BiotechNews-Ar, an electronic newsletter in Arabic providing updates on news and events relevant to applied biotechnology in food and agriculture in developing countries.
