GCP platform
.
The GCP platform (middleware) architecture will serve as a common operational framework for Generation CP developed or adopted applications. It will thus allow the retrieval of data from diverse data sources, combined with the possibility to exchange data.
With the defining and implementation of a common middleware architecture the GCP will achieve several goals.
Interoperability between current and future front or back-end software such as databases, analytical tools, GUIs and web services will be realized, together with fully interoperable products, provided by the concurrent execution of multiple independent software engineering projects. The GCP platform is the most comprehensive software project in the GCP.
The MOBY networking technology, elaborated within the Generation Challenge Programme, uses special GCP MOBY data types derived from the Generation Challenge Programme domain models and ontology, plus a special software engineering platform to interconnect available data sources.
The GCP platform is divided into two different sections: a large section named Pantheon, and a second section named ICIS.
Pantheon is devoted to the development of systems intended for data exchange and system interoperability, by the development of common standards for GCP data.
ICIS is intended for the development and employment of database schemata. ICIS is a collection of databases (public and private), and associated query tools.
