The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented research scientist (PhD or MSc level) to join our research team at CIAT headquarters in Cali, Colombia to work on the evaluation of transgenic genes associated with traits of agronomic importance in crop plants, especially in rice. The successful candidate will manage drought screens in the field for timely data delivery. Responsibilities include establishment of drought screening protocols in the field and screen house, experimental planning, quality control, and data collection and analysis. In addition to the responsibilities noted above, the successful candidate will lead a team of research and technical assistants and field workers to conduct drought screens in two or three locations in Colombia and drive improvement of existing screens as needed.
The ideal candidate has completed a PhD or MSc in plant physiology or a related field and has for at least two years drought screening experience in the field, preferably for rice. A good publication record is also requested. The ability to work in a team-based environment and be proactive in problem solving is critical. Experience with transgenic plants and field agronomy will be a plus.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required as well as the ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team environment. The ability to understand Spanish is a plus.
