Quality assurance and improvement

.

QA (quality assurance) is the complete documentation of the perceived quality of a given datum. This may consist of estimates of:
  • Accuracy: whether or not a datum is (statistically) close to its "real" value

  • Precision: the level of uncertainty in the datum

  • Consistency: the logical consistency (temporal sequence, causality, etc.) between data elements

  • Lineage: the source of the information

  • Completeness, in availability

  • Congruency, or fitness for purpose: are the assumptions congruent with the purpose

Read more about GCP quality control checks for phenotypic data and for molecular data on the Germplasm Data Analysis (GDA) pages of Biometris, the WUR centre for mathematical and statistical expertise.

The above mentioned aspects are further elaborated for passport data quality and marker data quality.

Off course, the outcome of the quality discussions and agreed GCP quality standards is reflected in the development of approved data templates, designed to upload research data to the GCP Central Registry in an approved, highly standarized version.
