Thematic Areas

.

The range of GCP-SP4 products is very wide. To guide you to the information you are looking for, we tried to distinguish the products into the following three categories:
  • issues and products related to access to high quality data, including availability and quality aspects

  • Access to high quality data, focuses on data availability - including the web services and the Central Registry - and on data quality (DQ). DQ encompasses quality assurance, management and standarization. DQ assurance gives special attention to DQ of passport and marker data. DQ of research data is currently in development and receives high attention of GCP. Standarization goes into detail on templates and ontology. In the GCP a specialized ontology for different food crops is newly developed. Standarized, approved data templates, for different types of crop research and breeding experiments, are developed by the GCP in order to capture research data in a coherent way throughout the consortium, different types of experiments and different crops.

  • facilities, tools and methodologies to be used in ongoing science

  • Analytical tools and facilities are organized according to their field of application – genomics, breeding and statistical analysis, diversity studies – and to fields more interesting for informatics developers - domain modeling, software architecture, crop database architecture. Software packages were newly developed or adapted for genomics and statistical analysis. Examples are Dayhoff, a comparative stress gene catalogue, and DARwin, a windows program for dissimilarity analysis and representation.
